GIFT BY THE NETHERLANDS GOVERNMENT.
The PRESIDENT FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IN CHINA
stated that a letter had been addressed to the Secretary-
General on April 1st, 1938 by the Netherlands Minister
for Foreign Affairs announcing the intention of the
Netherlands Government to contribute a gift to the value
of 50,000 florins to the work of medical assistance
undertaken by the League of Nations in China. On
April 8th the Secretary-General replied to the Netherlands
Minister for Foreign Affairs thanking him for the
Netherlands Government's generous contribution, and
suggesting that the money in question should be used for
the purchase of quinine in Amsterdam. The Netherlands
Government agreed to this suggestion. In view of the
amount of the gift, it appeared desirable that the Council
should be informed so as to enable it to instruct the
Secretary-General to write a letter of thanks to the
Netherlands Government on its behalf.
Mr. JORDAN suggested that the President should make
an announcement on the matter in public session so as to
give the action of the Netherlands Government prÚLT
publicity.
Mr. Jordan's proposal was adopted.
The Council went into public session.
